What is one thing Massachusetts should accomplish by 2040 that would make future generations proud?
Kate Lipper-Garabedian: Massachusetts has led the nation in so many ways throughout our history, from education and innovation to civil rights and economic opportunity. As we progress towards 2040, we must continue that proud tradition by building a thriving Commonwealth where everyone can succeed. That means investing in our communities, strengthening our economy, and creating good-paying jobs while confronting the widening wealth gap and affordability crisis. We can lead again by ensuring housing, healthcare, childcare, education, and essential services remain within reach for every Massachusetts family.

Is there anything else voters should know about your vision for Massachusetts' future?
Kate Lipper-Garabedian: As a former teacher, education attorney, and the mom of two school-aged boys in the Melrose Public Schools, I bring a unique perspective to government. Investing in public education and supporting students and educators isn't theoretical to me–I've taught in the classroom and advocated for students as an attorney, and my sons learn in our public schools every day. My life journey has taken me from teaching underserved students in an Atlanta classroom to Harvard Law School, the Melrose City Council, and, for the past six years, the Massachusetts House of Representatives. This experience has prepared me to pick up the mantle from Senator Jason Lewis and, from day one, provide principled, informed, and committed representation for our communities. I am proud to have received the endorsements of Senator Lewis; the full House delegation serving the District; more than 35 local elected officials from all 6 communities in the District; the strongest coalition of organized labor representing state and local public employees, the building trades, and nurses and frontline healthcare workers; the Environmental League of Massachusetts; Reproductive Equity Now; Vote Mama; and the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus.
Carey McDonald:
I'm a working parent, nonprofit executive with the Unitarian universalist Association, and a three term Malden City Councillor at large. I understand very personally, the challenges that we face, and I'm committed to getting things done. I got into this race after we failed an override vote in Malden, which I worked very hard for, and saw the lack of urgency on Beacon Hill for addressing our local funding crisis.
I'm running to fight the Trump administration's attacks on our neighbors, fund our local schools and communities, and make life more affordable. I believe we can do these things with amor, transparent government, and leaders who bring fresh energy and a collaborative spirit.
