THE CHALLENGE

The affordability crisis isn't coming, it's here. Young people can't afford to start careers where they grew up. Working families struggle to stay in communities they love. Seniors face displacement by rising costs. Teachers and nurses and first responders, our COVID heroes, can't afford to live in the communities they serve.

MY APPROACH

Increase housing production at all income levels - Support building more housing, streamline permitting, enable transit-oriented development, ensure new housing includes affordable units

Protect tenants and prevent displacement - Strengthen tenant protections, prevent no-fault evictions and predatory practices, ensure tenants have recourse against unjust rent increases, support stable housing

Make childcare affordable and accessible - Expand access to quality early education, support childcare providers with fair wages, reduce costs for working families, recognize childcare as economic infrastructure

Address healthcare costs - Make medications affordable through transparency and fair pricing, expand mental health access, address surprise billing and medical bankruptcy, ensure everyone can afford the care they need

Keep education affordable - Expand financial aid, support debt-free pathways, ensure public higher education serves its mission, create apprenticeship and career pathway alternatives

Support families across life stages - From young families needing childcare to elders needing accessible housing and services, ensure policies support people staying in communities through every stage of life
