Democrat Tom Hopcroft is running to represent the Second Middlesex Senate District spans four diverse communities across approximately 175,000 residents. From Cambridge's innovation economy to Somerville's vibrant urban culture, from Medford's family-friendly neighborhoods to Winchester's engaged suburban community, this district represents the best of Massachusetts. I've lived in Somerville and now live in Winchester, and I understand what connects our communities across their differences. Each community has unique strengths and challenges, but we share fundamental values and face common struggles around affordability, education, climate action, and opportunity. I'm running to represent all of us.

-
School overcrowding and facility needs from rapid growth

Winchester
What Makes Winchester Unique: Winchester is a suburban community known for excellent schools, town meeting governance, strong civic engagement, and residents committed to environmental sustainability. The district includes Precincts 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Winchester.

-
Maintaining excellent schools while managing budget pressures

Ensuring all residents can afford to live in Winchester (property taxes, housing costs)
-
Climate action and accelerating clean energy transition across town facilities
-
Infrastructure investment (roads, town facilities, long-term capital planning)
What I Bring: Winchester School Committee member, Climate Advisory Committee liaison, Energy Management Committee member, Town Meeting member, deep engagement with local issues and proven track record advancing climate solutions and educational excellence
WHAT UNITES US
Despite our differences, these four communities share fundamental challenges and values:
-
We all struggle with affordability - whether rent or property taxes, healthcare or childcare, education or groceries, costs have outpaced income
-
We all want excellent schools - for our children and grandchildren to have opportunities we had, or opportunities we wished we'd had
-
We all recognize climate urgency - and want leadership that accelerates solutions rather than retreats from commitments
-
We all need good jobs and pathways to opportunity - whether in tech or trades, service industries or innovation economy
-
We all value diversity and inclusion - and reject policies that divide us or discriminate
-
We all want transparent, accountable government - that listens to constituents and acts with integrity
I'm running to represent all of us, every community, every neighborhood, every ward and precinct, every person in this district. Your voices matter. Your concerns are valid. Your hopes are worth fighting for.
